Jax’s Journey

Hi everyone, my name is Jax- a very handsome boy I am as an 80 lb Blue Amstaff. I was brought to the pound when I was found wandering the streets, and my owners never came looking for me. Someone did come and adopt me from the pound, but they also abandoned me and I landed back at the pound not even a year later.

When my Mum (Jayme) and Dad adopted me in September 2013, I was very sad for a little while and I was skeptical that they would leave me too. They gave me lots of hugs and belly rubs, and finally I became such a happy dog…especially when they would take me for swims! They made me feel like I was their family, but because I was left by previous owners, I would get anxious when they would leave to go to work (I think they called it separation anxiety). I eventually got a bit better when I knew they would always come back to me.

In 2017, we moved to a new place where I had 20 whole acres to run and play- that was so awesome, but even more awesome…it was closer to the beach! In 2020, something called a “Pandemic” happened which sounded really bad… but for me, it was great! My Mum got to work at home and spend all day with me. It was the best thing ever- especially since, at the end of 2020, I started to lose some feeling and mobility in my hind legs. The vets told my Mum that arthritic changes and spondylosis in my spine were causing the nerves to my legs to be pinched. Mum and I went to so many nice vets- one of them that we would see often even had a pool with a treadmill that I walked on!

My Mum tried really hard to find a way to help me walk better- we had so many trips to rehab and the naturopath plus my regular vet, lots and lots of medication and natural remedies…even regular acupuncture and laser therapy over 9 months. Some of the things helped, but I was 11 years old and I started to get tired. Mum helped me walk with this harness that I wore, and then she got me this really neat cart! But I was tired. I was so happy that mum could stay with me full-time for the last year and half- we got to spend some amazing time together and I got to go for so many swims….even when I couldn’t walk very well.

In September of 2021, 8 years after my Mum opened her heart and her door for me, we said goodbye for now. I left my cart and my harness behind, and I stepped onto the Rainbow Bridge, all on my own. A few days after I made the journey to the other side of the Rainbow Bridge- I wanted to show my Mum that I made it and how beautiful it was, so I sent the rainbow to her. I know my Mum’s heart still hurts, but I’m so grateful that she gave me a chance, and a beautiful 8 years. I know that Mum and Aunt B are helping other doggos now, and I’m super proud. Until we meet again, xo

The Tale of Tex

Tex’s story started when Brittany saw his sweet “Adopt Me!” picture posted with a rescue group called “Hearts of the North” based in New Brunswick, Canada. Tex, along with other pooches sponsored by the group, made the long drive from Texas to the Canadian border in New Brunswick in February of 2018 by a relay of dedicated volunteers determined to find a better fate for these pups. February 4, 2018 to be exact, Brittany and her mom (herein after referred to as “Nana”), left their home in rural Nova Scotia, Canada and drove 7 hours (6 of which was through a horrible snowstorm!) to welcome Tex at the border and bring him to his new furever home!

After the paperwork and exchange of the precious cargo at the border, the new family went straight for a hotel room to rest after the long drives! It didn’t take Tex long to settle and realize that he was going to be loved, loved, loved! Everything was perfect- except…it was snowing! “What the heck is this stuff and why is it so cold here?!” is what Tex’s reaction revealed as he shivered and shook on his pee breaks outside. A quick trip to the pet store the next day for a warm doggie coat fixed that problem.

Tex continues to be a warm-weather pooch and lives his best life laying in his bed beside the woodstove or snuggled under the covers with his Mum. He has recently been learning to cohabitate with his new step-dad and step-brother (seen in the picture). Since his Mum works in a private (Humane Gains!) office, Tex comes to work with her everyday and he is so happy to snuggle in his office bed while his Mum works to help give other doggos the same chance for love.
